Jevon Carter is going to test the draft waters.

He apparently hasn't signed with an agent so there is a chance he will return. I wouldn't be shocked to see him learn what he needs to improve on and come back for his senior year.

He also might find out his stock is pretty high and bolt.

It be really disappointing to see him make the same mistake Devin Williams did. Chad Ford has 35 PG's & 35 SG's ranked for NBA Draft, Carter isn't on either list.

I fully believe he'll be back at wvu...

He's not ready.

Hope there's not some idiot whispering in his ear.

I guess I should say I hope he's not listening to the idiots who are whispering in his ear.

It's a good sign that he has not signed with an agent. Recall that Juwan Staten did the same thing and came back. More importantly and more recently, Devin Williams signed with an agent and it did not get drafted.

I think it's good to test the draft waters and see what you need to improve on, ultimately I don't think he's going to get picked, so he will be back, however, he'll learn things to work on in the off-season and will hopefully come back as a much better player. I mean Kentucky sends every single player to the draft even the walk-ons to see what they need to improve on. Could be a situation like that.

I think there is less than 5% chance he actually hires an agent and leaves. There is simply no market for him. Excellent college PG, maybe a 12th guy on the bench in the NBA. If he comes back and plays D like he has, and shoots a little better/takes over at the end better, I could see him going 40th next year, but I just can't see it right now. Plus I think the heartbreaking way the year ended I see him wanting to finish some business. That said if he does go, I will wish him the best and miss him greatly, he is a Great Mountaineer

Smart move for JC! This will give him an idea of what the scouts want him to work on the most. He aint leaving, he's learning.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread. Just a boring obvious comment about how I don't want him to leave and trying to say he sucks too much to go pro yet he's awesome enough for me to say he's one of the best players in college basketball.

JC is a great college player. I don't think his offensive game translates to the NBA, even after next year. Doesn't have the length to be effective against the 6' 5" plus guards and small forwards, and he doesn't have the quickness needed to penetrate and create his own shot, or dish to the open man.

I will say he has the quickest hands I've ever seen. He is absolutely amazing on defense. He'll have great career overseas.

I actually think Miles is the better NBA prospect. His athleticism is off the charts.

Almost all high level players do this. He'll be back, and hopefully with more assertiveness from tipoff instead of waiting til the end.

Monte Morris did this for Iowa State. JC gets access to scouts and evaluations, and can learn what he needs to improve on before taking a bigger swing at the NBA next year. Good move for his career!

I think JC could develop to wind up on an NBA 15 man roster at some point, but the deep bench is probably his ceiling.

It is a question of some skill development and whether he can develop in a basketball IQ sense, mostly the latter. If he can at least stay in front of an NBA point guard, and understand the complex rotation/switch schemes, he could be useful in a "eat up minutes in a mid-season back to back" type sense.

It may sound frivolous, but the one thing he needs to do is shave his melon. Right now, his hair makes him look like the old guy in the pickup game. NBA scouts are weird about youth, and there might be a subconscious bias against him because he looks kinda like a slightly younger Uncle Drew.

I'm not a big fan of these "evaluations" people keep mentioning. The majority of the time, the player comes back, and when the season starts tries way to hard to establish that he can do the things he was told he needed to work on.

Idk how many people remember him, but Auburn had an unbelievable season 15+ years back, where they earned a number 1 seed in tourney, they were led by Chris Porter. After that season Chris Porter declared for draft, found out what he needed work on, then came back to school.

When the next season started, all he did was shoot three's, which was what he was told he needed to display to be high draft pick. He wasn't the same player, and the team didn't come close to matching their potential.

That's my issue with these NBA Draft evaluations, it makes the players go into business for themselves when they come back. They're not interested in team achievements, only what can improve their draft stock.

Carter will be told he needs to get TALLER and look YOUNGER.

Neither of which he can change. So, he should be the same player next year that he was this year.
