The sky is falling.
WOW, when are we going to get over the fact that we cannot have the prettiest girl at the prom? It's okay, this program has always been built on the blue collar mentality and will continue to unless we all of a sudden get super rich guys and gals starting to hand out cash like the big programs do.
It's simple. We don't have donors willing to pony up the big bucks and I am okay with that.
LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Semi-typical non-flashy WVU recruiting class.

No QBs? Wtf is our problem signing qbs?

Grier = Jr.
Chugunov = Soph
Saunders = Fr

Don't think it was a big priority this year, I think they're (obviously) pretty comfortable with all 3. I never heard any chatter about QB's getting away during recruiting or leading up to signing day.

I wouldn't call this class underwhelming but it isn't flashy. This class loaded up on positions WVU has been dangerously thin at for the last 2 years. They just added a lot of depth to the secondary and the trenches with DB's, offensive and defensive linemen. Other than the JUCO guys I could see a lot of these guys red shirting. I like the potential of this class.

Rankings have us at 56th. A big surprise is Maryland at 20th. :(.

Good quote from Dana about this class not being done yet:

"For grad transfers, you know now (who is available). Then there are four-year transfers that you typically don’t know about until after spring," he said. "...Whether it’s grad transfers or four year transfers or Coach (Joe) Wickline hitting all these (junior colleges) in May for late out guys. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for what we need."

Eh. Not that surprising.

They have a a young, energetic coach selling the program to kids in a hot bed of recruiting. They are bringing in Big Ten money. And they have Under Armour behind them to upgrade facilities. Maryland should have been the Oregon of the east for years.

Under Armor is having financial difficulties - sales are down and their stock price is falling - all things are not always as they appear!

I just looked at the roster. Is it possible we only have 9 seniors this year?

Not counting JUCOs or any other grad transfers/etc. in we have:

1. Ka'Raun White
2. Al-Rasheed Benton
3. Xavier Preston
4. Kyzir White
5. Marvin Gross
6. Elijah Battle
7. Justin Crawford
8. Elijah Wellman
9. Mike Daniels
10. Shane Commodore
11. Mark Shraver
12. Alex Brooks
13. Hodari Christian
14. Mike Molina
15. Grant Ligafelter
16. Kyle Bosch
17. Brendan Willis
18. D.J. Carozza
19. Marcell Lazard
20. Alejandro Marenco
21. Jon Lewis
22. Xavier Pegues

A bunch of the guys you have listed are redshirt juniors. There are only 9 seniors listed on the WVU athletics site:

Battle,, Benton, Bosch, Carozza, Christian, Commodore, crawford, Daniels, Gross.

That means, barring injury or transfers, we'll have at least 13 returning starters for 2018 :)

These difficulties - did they happen after their alignment with Maryland?

And a disturbing lack of seniors with last names ending in the last 19 letters of the alphabet.

They were always aligned with Maryland - the founder was a 23 year old Maryland football player.....

I remember when under armour came out in 96.

Always hated the brand. Nike is miles better in just about every category.

My observations are 1- While I understand Holgs and staff understand their needs for this program at this time may not always translate to 4 and 5 star kids, I am concerned that our recruiting class ranks 8th in the Big 12, only ahead of Kansas St. and Kansas. Iowa St. recruited better than us??? And Texas lost its coach and still had one of the best classes in the Big 12.
2.- The lop-sided ending to the bowl game really showed the talent gap between us and a rising Miami program. I had thought our o-line and overall athleticism had come a long way, but we looked out-manned and out-skilled by the Hurricanes, who have not been a top ACC team the last few years. The convincing bowl loss may have scared some recruits.
3- The Will Grier thing is not a slam-dunk; the NCAA will still have to formally approve this, and they have the option to sit him out some games in 2017. We need to have our best QB under center (or in shotgun) for game one against VA Tech.

ESPN article giving some love to a few of our signings:

West Virginia S E.J. Brown: “Go watch his film. I’ve watched the first few plays 15 times. If there’s a more physical player at safety in the country in this class, I haven’t seen one.”

West Virginia DL Lamonte McDougle: “A little undersized height-wise, but his dad (Stockar McDougle) went to Oklahoma and was a first-round pick there. Great bloodlines and a really good football player.”

West Virginia S Kenny Robinson: “Absolute freak in terms of athletic ability. He came from a small private school. If he’s at the big schools, he’d have everybody in the country on him. I think he’s a freshman impact guy at safety and he can play corner too.”

These guys have always seem to find some hidden gems. Almost all of our most recent Pros were 3 star guys.

Shakur Brown's twitter account lists him as a WVU commit. He is not listed on WVU's website as a signee. I recall that he may have some problem with eligibility, so maybe that is why WVU does not have a signed LOI with him. He re-tweeted the tweet below on signing date.

This is weird. I have heard the staff isn't accepting the commitment due to eligibility concerns.

Maybe he is trying to raise his GPA? We have room.

If he's graduating from Cal in May then grades shouldn't be a problem.
