ESPN Underestimated the Mountaineers.

Good thing they cleared that up.

I just can't post in the topics I want today because they keep disappearing. I just want to say a couple things, we've been ranked #1 before by the AP, and there is no conspiracy to keep us out of the top spot. Its something like 60 or so sports writers picking each week. They can't watch every game, so they pull this **** out of their asses each Monday after looking at last weeks scores. Nobody remembers who was #1 once the tournament starts. I know Huggins does care, else he would have had a salary incentive included in his last contract.

Personally I think ESPN is a wonderful organization, they bring me my sports opinions every morning while I have my first cup of coffee.

I feel like some of what has been posted is what happens as a warning sign before a mass shooting. Should we warn ESPN, the NCAA or the voters? Should we contact the ATF or FBI?

They’re worse than some of you all when it comes to complaining. Never seen so many excuses like (WVU doesn’t even play basketball). The press is a type of basketball that your team can’t handle. And they lost. Get over it

Who is this "you all" of whom you speak and why are you not part of it or them or they or those?

Ha! Ha!

I think he meant to say ... some of "us"

Interested to speculate how much Esa's return will improve the team. Short version: perhaps 4 or 5 points per game better, moving WVU from 6th in the Sagarin ratings to 1st, 2 or 3 points ahead of 2nd. Some numbers:

ESA (last year)
Harris (this year)

points FG % 3 % FT% Rebounds FGA Minutes
11.3 .480 .395 .679 4.3 8 23.8
6.1 .315 .267 .682 4.9 5.5 21.6

Ahmad scored 5 points per game more than Harris but took 2 1/2 more shots per game. If WVU scored 1 point per shot, then it scored an additional 2 1/2 when someone else shot. If so, Ahmad's return only improves WVU by 2 1/2 points per game. BUT, lots of reasons to think this is too small:
i. Ahmad is supposed to be greatly improved so his last year statistics may not reflect his current form.
ii. Perhaps (most likely) he faced better defenders than Harris.
iii. The rebounding statistics may be flawed. Huggins says Ahmad is the best rebounding small forward in conference.
iv. WVU has greater depth with Ahmad's return. That alone is worth a point or two per game.
v. Ahmad would be a big help against tall teams like Baylor.
vi. Ahmad's statistics were against stronger opponents.
They were for the entire year. Harris's are for the first 16 games, which included a lot of weak non-conference games.

....and hopefully, there is also a couple of intangibles that can be added to the equation, motivation and rest.

He is coming from a position of not having had his head kicked in for 16 games, which could make him a bit more rested and ready to take on the world. Also, hopefully, he feels that he has something to prove, not only to his coaching staff and team, but also the NBA. If there is that possibility that he might want to come out early for the next level, he is 16 games behind all the other NBA hopefuls at this point.

I look for good things from him over the rest of the season.

Don't figure on him playing more than 15 to 20 minutes. Practice conditioning is a lot different than playing condition. Harler was gassed after about 19 minutes and had to ask to go to the bench. On the positive side even 15 productive minutes will be very helpful.

I look forward to about 4 games ahead with h Esa back to form and Teddy Allen with a few more games under his belt. Scoring to go along with D.

If there was ever a game I wish both teams could lose it's the Puke-Spitt game on now.

You can tell when Huggs starts talking about Esa how excited he is to get him back. Direct Quote:

Link to Jordan McCabes 1st episode of his little “in the life” documentary. In the last 4 minutes or so he is on the phone with coach “Otter” at First I thought it was a WVU coach but no one has that last name. But anyways good little video. I’ll upload the rest as they come available.

Why is it called a "motion" offense when the players stand around the periphery passing the ball?

Jevon may force too many shots but I see him moving without the ball MUCH more than ANYONE else. Too much standing. And that means when Jevon is out front with the ball (often) there are 4 statues in front of him.

This is one reason the lane is always jammed up for us. Our 4 players without the ball just stand around and don’t force the defense to chase the open man. I don’t remember a single time this season that the lane was semi clear when one of our players attempted to drive to the hoop.

It must be miserable to play for OU right now. That dude throws up garbage in crunch time like there's no other player on the court....and the coach Pat's him on the ass afterwards!!! OU may be a better team without him, at least better to watch. 46 points and they lose. The coach is failing the team by giving a freshman free reign.
