Nice win by the Reds. I'll give them credit.

That said, your thug pitcher should be suspended for the rest of the series. He was trying to hurt McCutchen and everyone knows it.

Tonight, when the Pirates hit someone in retaliation, you watch...it will be a 75 m.p.h. curveball in the middle of the back and not 101 up toward the head.

This is ****ing baseball man, not MMA. It's not a game for the criminal element like Chapman.

Agree with you totally about throwing at McCutchen as I put in my previous post. It is sad that Dusty Baker has said more than once that he instructs his pictures to throw at opposing batters but he never gets in trouble. It would be nice for someone on the Pirates to throw some high inside heat at Phillips and when Votto gets back we should throw at him to.

Chapman never bats so you know he will not be thrown at, maybe someone should seek him out in the pregame. Should nt be hard to find him, just look for the prostitues that he has for after the games.

while i am not familiar with the whole 'pitchers hitting batters with baseball procedure', is it possible he just had a bad pitch? seems stupid to do that late in a game like that. i know myself, i can't aim when i throw. not making excuses.. just asking if pitchers F** up sometimes..

also. 5.5 game lead now.

Baseball 101: A history lesson

They've been playing ML baseball since 1869. There is an unwritten rule about intentionally hitting batters with a pitch, and it has always been this way.

When your guy hits my guy intentionally -- especially my best player with a hundred mile an hour heater up near his head -- either trying to hurt him or intimidate him or because he's just a thug, then I get to hit your guy back when he comes up to bat.

Since your guy doesn't bat, and the game is over before you bat again, then I get to do it tomorrow. I'll probably hit your leadoff man or your starting pitcher, unless that would drive in a run or something.

The umpires will allow this, because they know it's always been that way, and that will end it and everyone will be satisfied. Baseball metes out its own justice and moves on.

Here's what happened last night:

Before your pitcher came up for his mandatory slow curve in the back, he hit another one of my guys and then started to walk toward him.

He probably hit him accidentally but that is irrelevant. I was owed one payback hit for last night, and now the ump steps in and warns me not to do it. That is justice denied and the ump should know better.

When my manager tells him that, he gets tossed from the game while the manager whose pitchers are hitting my guys stays in the dugout.

That's horseshit, man. Baseball has been policing itself on hit batsmen for 143 years and no umpire has the right to get in the way of that.

So what happens now?

A.J. Burnett pitches for the Pirates today. If I were a Reds batter, I'd consider body armor. A.J. knows the "rules" of baseball.

Here is where the bad pitch does not cut it, both pitchers for the reds who hit the pirates players are know as having good control of their pitches. Chapman only has 14 walks all year. When the reds announcers are saying the pitches look purposful and with the reds being known as a dirty team, then the umps should expect more of the same today.

With that being said, i still think the reds are a better team than the pirates and picking up Broxton at the deadline was huge, I will be happy to see the pirates finish over 500 this year.

Exactly. I was just going to post that, honest.

The Reds are winning this series because they have the better team and they are red hot, even without Votto.

The Pirates seem to be in disarray since the trades. Neither Sanchez (.198) or Snider (.200) is contributing anything and the attitude in the dugout seems to be different than it was before the trades.

The point is, the Reds don't need the help. Play it straight up and they'll still win 2 of 3 or maybe sweep.

All this extracurricular **** is unnecessary and unseemly and the umpires need to be smart enough to figure that out.

I would have paid $500 if the Pirates had come back against Chapman last night and won the game, but it didn't happen. It's too bad, but life goes on.

Jay Bruuuuuuuce!!!!

And the lead is now 6 games.

Votto still recovering. Rest of the team picking it up big time in his absence. If they keep it up when he comes back, we may have a contender here folks.

Just need Leake and Bailey to start pitching a little more consistently. Arroyo seems to have his "home run service" pitch under control, while Cueto and Latos are just pitching evil geniuses right now. Latos 7IP, 5 hits, 4 SO and 0 ER tonight, but no decision.

Bullpen (except for Chapman) gives me belly cramps though. Maybe the one weak spot. I'm convinced that Ondrusek wants to see me have a stroke.

You can call it on the Pirates, but the Cardinals are going to move up. They did this last year and how did that turn out?
